How we work
Working with children, adolescents, adults and older adults, we draw on different therapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic, systemic, and schema therapy, with proven clinical effectiveness selected to meet your individual needs.
Prior to commencing a piece of work together, you will be invited to attend an initial assessment appointment. This is a one-off appointment to begin with, It will give you a chance to see how you feel in the session, and whether or not you wish to continue. There is no pressure for you to arrange anything more than this session to begin with, and the psychologist will spend time with you at the end of this session, discussing how you found it and whether or not you want to continue with further sessions.
If you do decide to continue with the work, the psychologist will discuss a formulation with you – a proposal of how they think the problem has developed and been maintained over time from the information supplied by you, and they will discuss with you the various goals you might want to have for the therapeutic work together. Please remember, this is a collaborative approach – we will strive to work together with you, rather than tell you what to do.
